Alstom Grid to launch ‘one-box-solutions’ for substation automation

Alstom Grid to launch P60 Agile, a new range of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) provides comprehensive one-box solutions for the complete protection, control, recording and measurement of electrical power systems. The new product range, which was showcased during GridTech 2013 in New Delhi, is especially suited to smart distribution networks and is intended for utility operators and industry.
Automating electrical substations implies the automatic acquisition and processing of data coming from the IEDs installed inside the substation. This information will help to manage the protection devices and to make faster, more efficient decisions thanks to better awareness of conditions at the substation. The P60 Agile range stands out as a compact, single box, a versatile device fulfilling a comprehensive set of all-in-one functions. The new P60 Agile range strengthens Alstom’s offer for distribution market.
“We are proud of this new product specifically designed to meet the needs of next-generation smart distribution networks,” said Hervé Amossé, Vice President, Substation Automation Solutions (SAS). “This launch brings customer-inspired new technology and a significant range expansion that will enable us to grow in the distribution market.”
P60 Agile offers a HMI featuring a large, fully-programmable and ergonomic colour touch-screen. P60 Agile is designed for smart networks thanks to the IEC 61850 protocol providing IED interoperability for guaranteed protection and control of all primary equipment connected to the power grids.
Alstom Grid enjoys a leading position on the substation automation market. It is amongst the top suppliers to provide high-performance, mission-critical solutions that protect, control and monitor electrical substations for utilities and electro-intensive industries.
“Since 1958, our Pallavaram Plant in Chennai has been manufacturing highly reliable high-tech products like electromechanical, Static Relays, Disc, digital relays and conventional and digital control systems,” said Rathin Basu, Managing Director, Alstom T&D India. “Alstom Grid SAS regularly invests in expanding its facility and in developing its know-how, so as to be in a position to meet the growth currently happening in India and in export markets.”
Major technical features The P60 Agile range comprises the P161 non-directional feeder, P162 with directional earth-fault and P163 directionalised feeder management IEDs.
The P60 Agile range offers comprehensive switchgear control, aided by the dynamic single-line-diagram display, on /off switching via the function keys and programmable bay and inter-bay interlocks.  Up to five (5) switchgear elements may be switched by the P60 Agile bay control models. The single line diagram for the bay or a subset of the substation, along with relevant data such as measurements or alarms, may be generated by the user via the P60 configuration tool, aided by integrated graphical icons.  Remote controls are facilitated by the relay’s SCADA communication interfaces.
