Scuderia Ferrari to leverage SKF Engineered Solutions at the first ever Indian F1 Grand Prix [October 25, 2011]

SKF’s Racing Unit supplies Scuderia Ferrari F1 car with more than a hundred distinctively high specification components in bearings and seals
SKF, the designer and manufacturer of automotive and industrial engineered solutions in bearings, seals, lubrication, services and mechatronics will partner with Scuderia Ferrari to provide high performance components comprising bearings and seals for reducing friction, weight and improve overall efficiency of Ferrari F150th  Italia at the first ever Formula 1 race in India at the Buddh International circuit, Greater Noida from October 28-30.
The modern Formula One cars are considered as the fastest circuit-racing cars and often set industry benchmark through constant innovation and experimentation in machinery and technology. In addition, each F1 track has unique layout and provides different set of challenges for the cars to handle high speed cornering and straights. SKF’s Racing Unit supports Scuderia Ferrari F1 cars to address these challenges with around 150 critical components in bearings and seals for engines, gearboxes, wheels and suspensions to increase efficiency, reduce friction, weight and manage power density which optimizes the bearing performance through maximising fatigue performance.

SKF’s dedicated Racing Unit will help Scuderia Ferrari endure technically demanding challenges of the Buddh international circuit involving combination of slow speed turns and high speed straights by providing solutions like: • Ceramic Balls and Rollers reduces car’s weight, increased stiffness and sustain the temperature as high as 200 degree Celsius• NoWear Coatings enables car in sliding friction by 80 per cent as compared to conventional un-coated steel• Needle Roller bearings  with special coating which can sustain high temperature with a reduced flow of oil• Bearing Beacon, a computer based bearing simulation tool, checks the risk of development of new components.
