Anil Mangalvedhe, General Manager, Sales & Marketing, Precihole Machine Tools shares his views on the impending issues being faced by the nation and suggests some measures that the government and sector could take to improve the status
The Asian prospectThe manufacturing sector as far as the Asia Pacific region is categorised mainly in to; manufacturer of OEM, supplier to OEMs and the third category, the machine builders. According to Anil Mangalvedhe, General Manager, Sales & Marketing, Precihole Machine Tools, “As far as the machine building category is concerned for machine builders, the current scenario for the capital equipment manufacturers in the Asia Pacific region seems to be pretty good. Therefore, the entire world has its eye on the capital equipment manufacturers in the Asian region. This gives us a better chance to perform and excel. Moreover the dollar is getting stronger, gives still better opportunity to enhance the exports specially for the Indian Industries”.
Ease in acceptance of technology The manufacturing sector is driven by the automotive sector. If automotive sector is doing well, it certainly has a positive impact on the sector. India is very good in terms of acquiring technologies suitable for the right applications. Precihole Machine Tools has recently supplied a complete range of high-precision ‘Made in India’ products for a customer in aerospace industry. Though, initially, the customer strictly demanded for imported machines, “Thanks to our capabilities, we were the only Indian company supplying machine for this particular project”, Mr. Mangalvedhe said. “We possess the intelligence to compete with international giants as well in some of the projects or processes and taking this forward, I think we have a better chance ahead”.
Getting 100 per cent from employees – a challengeThe business is always run and operated by the team members. The employee contribution is a key factor in its success. Therefore getting 100 per cent from the employees is an essential factor. “Instead of extracting the output from an employee, if we are able to get the requisite contribution from an employee would be healthy from the business point of view”, suggests Mr. Mangalvedhe. According to him following are some of the key aspects to generate the positive vibes in the organisation: • Involvement of team members• Delegation of Authority• Channelising employees efforts in positive direction• Robust and easy to follow systems.
Indians taken for grantedThe government can play an eminent role to bring about a difference in the manufacturing sector. To begin with, the tax structure. The government needs to simplify the tax structure making it easy to compete in the international market. For example the countries like China, Korea and Taiwan are able to deliver very cost effective products to their customers. Emphasising on this fact, Mr. Mangalvedhe said, “The government in overseas countries are going out of their way to promote the sector, giving utmost care to factors such as taxation, finances and other necessary facilities, thereby ensuring immense growth.”
