Boosting investor sentiments can help manufacturing sector grow

June 17, 2013 9:51 am

“The need to improve the productivity lies in policy framing as well as in adapting new technologies”
– Manish Walia, Sr. Director (Industrial Automation Business Group), Delta India Electronics Pvt. Ltd.
The manufacturing industry in India can enhance the economic development, increase the productivity and sustain the competition from the global markets. Manufacturing, as an industry segment, has a crucial contribution in the national development and more or less insulated the Indian economy from global turmoil; thanks to its innovation-driven orientation. Manish Walia shares his experience in the manufacturing sector and how it can emerge from the shadow of India’s service sector.
Government’s policy for manufacturing sectorThe government devised the National Manufacturing Policy (NMP) in 2011 to enhance the share of manufacturing in India’s GDP to 25 per cent and add at least 100 million jobs by 2025. The government in recent times has increased the concessions for domestic production and endorsed manufacturing hubs and tertiary units to create a conductive atmosphere for the manufacturing industry and to encourage the SMEs. The recent finance ministry announcement of allowing companies investing Rs 100 crore or more in plant and machinery (between April 2013 and March 2015) to deduct an investment allowance of 15 per cent over and above current rates of depreciation is an encouragement to the FDI flow and technology improvement.
