Honeywell has acquired Li-ion Tamer® from Nexceris to enhance battery fire safety and expand its fire detection portfolio.
Honeywell announced the acquisition of the Li-ion Tamer® business from Nexceris, a leading provider of off-gas detection solutions designed to enhance the safety of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. The addition of Li-ion Tamer strengthens Honeywell’s fire and life safety offerings within its Building Automation segment and builds on a five-year partnership with Nexceris aimed at improving battery system safety. The deal is expected to be immediately accretive to Honeywell’s financial results.
Billal Hammoud, president and CEO of Honeywell’s Building Automation segment, stated, “The acquisition of Li-ion Tamer builds on five years of partnership, positioning Honeywell as a leader in early gas detection and battery fire prevention as lithium-ion battery use — and related fire risks — grow rapidly.”
Li-igrowsamer’s off-gas detection technology provides critical early warning of thermal runaway, typically offering up to 30 minutes of advance notice before a potential battery fire, giving facilities the time they need to act and avoid disaster.
The technology is trusted by leading battery manufacturers worldwide. With demand for lithium-ion batteries expected to rise more than 30% annually through 2030 — surpassing $400 billion — robust safety solutions are essential across industries such as renewable energy, cloud computing, and transportation. The Li-ion Tamer portfolio, which includes more than 30 global patents, will be integrated into Honeywell’s Building Automation business. It complements Honeywell’s existing fire and life safety technologies, including VESDA®, a leader in early smoke detection, and Connected Life Safety Services, part of the Honeywell Forge IoT platform that enables smarter, more secure fire system management.
The acquisition comes as Honeywell advances its portfolio transformation, following its recently announced plans to spin off its Aerospace Technologies and Solstice® Advanced Materials businesses, creating three independent, publicly traded companies. Since December 2023, Honeywell has announced approximately $13.5 billion in accretive acquisitions, including Access Solutions from Carrier Global, Civitanavi Systems, CAES Systems, Air Products’ LNG business, Sundyne, and Johnson Matthey’s Catalyst Technologies. Honeywell also recently finalised the sale of its personal protective equipment business to Protective Industrial Products.
