Indian manufacturers must make the most of ‘Make in India’

By June 29, 2016 11:41 am IST

The ‘Make in India’ campaign has generated a lot of interest for India worldwide. India is not only seen as an emerging economy, but also as a strategic country to invest in the Asian region.Vineet Seth, Managing Director, South Asia & Middle East, Delcam Ltd, UK
Delcam has developed products to aid in the production of complex shapes and tooling for about 30 years. It is now one of the world’s leading suppliers of advanced CADCAM software solutions for industries such as aerospace, automotive, electrical appliance, footwear, ceramics, packaging, sign-making, jewellery, toys and sporting equipment.
In an exclusive interview with OEM Update, Vineet Seth, Managing Director, South Asia & Middle East, Delcam Ltd, UK shares his views on the changes post ‘Make in India’ and why India is the most preffered destination for global investors.
Upbeat in the SME segmentThe most important change post the ‘Make in India’ launch, is that there is an upbeat in the SME segment of the manufacturing sector. In terms of quantification, there are enough reports that detail investments to the tune of billions of dollars in the electronics, automotive, defence and transport industries – on the large and heavy industry front. These new investments are coming up in tier-1 and tier-2 cities in the country. There is also a trend now to innovate and a lot of manufacturing organisations are investing in new technology and practice to increase their competencies as well as profitability.
Make the most of ‘Make in India’The ‘Make in India’ campaign should be seen as a national pride in building brand India global perspective. Many decades back, German and Japanese manufacturing leaders realised the true potential of being thought leaders and not fast followers, which changed the perception of their products not only in their country but also globally. Today, German precision and Japanese Quality are taken for granted. Indian manufacturers have a once in a lifetime opportunity to build a perception that will stand the test of time.
