Rupesh Desale, Managing Director at JUMO India Pvt. Ltd shares how the implementation of the automation solutions plays a vital role in making the manufacturing processes efficient.

How is automation transforming your shop floor operations in terms of productivity, quality, and efficiency?
At our new SENSILO plant, we’ve used the latest automation systems to make our operations faster, smarter, and more efficient. Our modular mTRON PLC, advanced digital sensors (like IOLink and Single Pair Ethernet), and smart SCADA/Cloud connectivity have made real-time data flow and process control seamless. By bringing together multiple production areas into one modern setup, we’ve improved material flow, reduced the time needed to switch between processes, and can now control many loops at once.

This setup uses closed-loop control, predictive diagnostics, and data visualisation to deliver higher productivity and consistent quality. We implemented sustainable automation, which reduced waste and energy use and enhanced our overall efficiency and product quality.

What challenges have you faced during automation implementation, and how did you overcome them?
The automation rollout during the development of our SENSILO plant presented several challenges, like relocating complex pressure sensor production systems without interrupting operations, constructing new cleanroom zones, and managing unforeseen delays such as adverse weather. Overcoming these required early-stage collaboration between our internal teams, automation partners, and contractors. A strong focus on quality management ensured that production standards were upheld throughout the transition. We phased out the entire move and used digital control systems for a smooth, on-schedule commissioning of SENSILO with fully integrated automation.

In your view, how ready is the Indian manufacturing sector to adopt Industry 5.0 technologies and human-machine collaboration?
We have used advanced IoT sensors such as IOLink and Single Pair Ethernet-based devices for precise measurements of temperature, pressure, pH, conductivity and various analytical parameters. These sensors, integrated with platforms like variTRON and JUMO Cloud, do real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and improve operational efficiency. The result included greater transparency, reduced downtime, and consistency, creating a more intelligent production environment.

Building on this groundwork, the shift to Industry 5.0 now focuses on making automation more human-centric. The aim is to bring efficiency, personalisation, adaptability, and resilience. With growing investment in AI, machine learning, and digital interfaces like augmented reality, manufacturers are equipping their workforce to interact seamlessly with machines. Indian industries are improving by combining technology and human creativity, thanks to upskilling efforts and better digital systems. This is making manufacturing smarter and more inclusive.

We see strong demand across the pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, drinking water, and wastewater treatment sectors. Additionally, the railways, renewable energy, and shipbuilding industries are also showing significant demand and adoption. These industries require high levels of compliance, traceability, and operational reliability, areas where our solutions provide unmatched value.
