Margo is an initiative by ABB Process Automation and ABB Machine Automation aimed at digital transformation in industrial IoT ecosystems.

“Margo” is an open standard interoperability initiative aimed at overcoming digital transformation obstacles. Driven by ABB Process Automation and ABB Machine Automation, it focuses on unlocking interoperability at the edge of industrial IoT ecosystems, where plant data is transformed into AI-powered insights for efficiency and sustainability.

The Margo effort takes its name from the Latin word for ‘edge’ and will establish protocols for interoperability between apps, devices, and orchestration software at the edge of industrial ecosystems. It will make it simple to execute and mix programmes from any ecosystem member on the hardware and runtime system of another member. Margo intends to deliver on its interoperability promise through a contemporary and agile open-source strategy, giving industrial enterprises greater flexibility, simplicity, and scalability as they migrate to digital in complex, multi-vendor situations.
