Foxconn is set to expand its manufacturing footprint in India with a $1.5 billion investment in a new facility in Tamil Nadu.
Apple’s key supplier, Foxconn, is moving forward with a $1.5 billion investment in a new component production facility in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, Chennai. The new facility will manufacture display modules, a crucial part of iPhones, and will be situated adjacent to its current iPhone manufacturing plant. This represents one of the biggest investments in Indian electronics manufacturing to date.
According to a filing on the London Stock Exchange, Foxconn’s Indian affiliate, Yuzhan Technology India, would receive the investment. The project received approval from the Tamil Nadu government in October 2024. The facility is anticipated to create an estimated 14,000 jobs.
Apple is expanding its manufacturing capacity in India. India produced 18% of the world’s iPhones in 2024, and by 2025, that percentage is expected to increase to 32%. By the end of 2025, Apple aims to manufacture all 60 million iPhones sold in the US in India.Apple manufactured $22 billion worth of iPhones in India for the financial year that ended on March 31, 2025, a roughly 60% increase over the previous year. This change is part of Apple’s broader strategy to diversify its production.
At present, Foxconn’s Tamil Nadu facility assembles the majority of iPhones manufactured in India. Production in southern India is also being increased by other industrial partners, such as Tata Group, which currently oversees Pegatron’s plants and manages Wistron’s old operations.
