Schaeffler India targets e-mobility growth through new facility

Schaeffler India opened a new facility in Tamil Nadu to enhance its manufacturing footprint.
Schaeffler India Limited opens its sixth production plant in Tamil Nadu’s Shoolagiri. The factory occupies 108,000 square metres, with Phase 1 taking approximately 16,500 square metres. By Q4 of 2025, it is anticipated to be fully ramped up. For the Indian market, it will produce both hybrid and conventional powertrain parts, such as planetary gear systems and hybrid gearbox components. The facility intends to assist Schaeffler’s growth in powertrain and e-mobility technologies while also expanding the capacity for gearbox components.
Matthias Zink, CEO Powertrain & Chassis, Schaeffler AG, stated, “India is a key market for Schaeffler. The new facility is a significant step in our efforts to expand our global manufacturing footprint and further localisation in the region. It supports our long-term growth vision and positions us to better cater to the rising market demands and grow with the Indian market.”

With the expansion of our production facilities, we are well-positioned to meet current local market demands while preparing for future needs during the transition to e-mobility. From 2022 to 2024, the company invested ₹1,700 crore to increase its local capabilities, surpassing the initial pledge of ₹1,500 crore. This comprises new industrial bearing, e-mobility, and powertrain product lines.A B2B e-commerce platform in the automobile aftermarket, KRSV Innovative Auto Solutions Pvt Ltd (Koovers), was purchased by Schaeffler India in 2023.
The Shoolagiri facility features include waste heat recovery, rainwater harvesting, battery-operated material handling, daylight utilisation, 100% LED lighting, zero liquid discharge systems, and digitalised operations.
