Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence: Shaping smart change in manufacturing

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is the manufacturing technologies division of Hexagon, a leading global provider of information technologies that drive quality and productivity across geospatial and industrial enterprise applications. In an interview with Subhajit Roy, Anup Verma, Managing Director, Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence India talks about how its solutions help in enhancing manufacturing efficiency.

Could you give us a brief overview of what Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence does?
Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is one of the global leaders in manufacturing data technology. We work with manufacturers to create solutions for the smart factory,improving productivity by embedding quality throughout the product lifecycle. Manufacturers today recognise the benefits of using technology to drive continuous improvement, and the promise of the smart factory is that connected data from across the manufacturing cycle will provide greater flexibility and agility to respond to changing consumer needs.

How do you help OEMs to enhance productivity?
Our hardware and software solutions use data to connect departments. Our software portfolio creates a digital thread that spans design and engineering, production and metrology – all areas of the process where the product quality can be defined and affected. Our metrology hardware enables us bring real-world data to this digital thread and enable better decision making upstream and downstream in the process. By connecting data from these normally siloed areas of the factory, we can drive productivity.

Our technology base includes metrology equipment from hand tools right through to automated solutions, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), portable measuring arms, laser trackers and optical scanners. On the software side, we offer simulation and CAE suites for design and engineering, CAD/CAM solutions for the production floor, dimensional metrology software for quality departments and advanced statistical packages for data management and process control.

How do you see the acceptance of this kind of intelligent solutions in Indian manufacturing sector?

The awareness will come, and we see the industry is very much excited about this! The manufacturing sector in India is today looking at intelligent information to improve processes and product quality. This can only be achieved with the availability of reliable data,which we provide through our hardware and then our software helps in analysing the received data.

Which are the industries you are targeting?
The manufacturing industry as a whole has much to gain from this type of technology. However, as of now, defence, aerospace and automotive are major sectors we are focusing in India.

What are the key milestones you set for the next one year?
We had a good year last year and we see Indian industry’s acceptability of technology and thinking of going in that direction. We as a company have that capability. So, our milestone is to of course introduce our technologies to the market as quickly as possible. Also, we would like to educate the industry about manufacturing intelligence technologies as much as possible.
