JSW JFE Steel plans to expand CRGO in India

By August 5, 2025 5:27 pm IST

With an aim to boost India’s manufacturing ecosystem, JSW JFE Electrical Steel Pvt. Ltd. plans to expand its CRGO electrical steel operations. This move will be in response to the increasing demand for transformer-grade steel across the country. JSW is also known for its dedication to maintaining quality since its inception.

In a significant development, both companies are ramping up the investment. This is with the go-ahead of a ₹4,300 crore expansion at Nashik. Meanwhile, the project at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, will also see an upgrade. The planned CRGO boost is from 62,000 to 100,000 TPA. The facility in Karnataka is still known to produce steel at the largest scale.

Together, the investment for the expansion project is pegged at ₹5,845 crore. JSW Steel and JFE Steel will equally offer a fund of ₹1,966 crore through equity. The commissioning of the project is set to begin in FY2028. It will boost the JV’s CRGO steel capacity and make India’s presence strong.

JSW Steel is known to be India’s top steel producer. The total capacity equals 35.7 MTPA. Within 3 years, the team plans to increase the capacity to 43.4 MTPA.
