Innovative Swiss Rotary Table Technology [Feb 2012]

pL Lehmann, a renowned Swiss pioneer, has launched its ‘series 500’ of a completely newly conceived generation of rotary tables with a gear unit. The elegant designs and consistent improvement in modular constructions of rotary tables have not only become up to 30 per cent more cost effective, but are also more efficient and more flexible in various ways.
This 500 series has four basic models viz. 507, 510, 520 & 530 with peak heights from 110 mm to 240 mm. They have innovated 170 different variants and combinations of models from the simple one spindle 4th axis right up to a 4-spindle turntable layout with 4th and 5th axis from these basic four models. The highly flexible modular construction of rotary tables also allows to be modified with new technical value in order to process new tasks. Hence, customer can get advantage of renewing the rotary tables rather buying a new one. The most interesting thing comes here that the modules of the 500 series can be assembled into various combinations by representatives, machine retailers or customer themselves which saves cost and time.
All rotary table models are rust resistant and fully sealed in accordance with IP67 which prevents damages to the inner parts. The 500 series is more attractive due to quick positioning time which helps in reducing manufacturing time and therefore increases productivity. Moreover, 45-55 per cent less weight and 35-65 per cent less floor space of rotary tables have added to more cost effectiveness and efficiency as compared to competitors.
Another new innovative feature added in pL Lehmann’s CNC rotary tables is an integrated BlackBOX which monitors/performs 19 functions. It keeps track on measurement of RPM, internal pressure of the motor housing, temperature, moisture and shock. Also, if any crash/collision or overloading occurs with the rotary table, it gets registered in BlackBOX. If the measured values exceed from the specified limits, the BlackBOX triggers the CNC control via a cable message. The values are also stored in the BlackBOX, which the service employees can read by collecting the data from its USB interface. The assessment, therefore, allows conclusions about damages, status and life span of the total system and enables optimum availability.
Series 500 rotary tables with gear units have CNC rotational axis and are generally used in horizontal and vertical machining centres, grinding machines, eroding machines, measuring machines, engraving machines and laser machines. The three axis machines fitted with 500 series offer ideal prerequisites for the processing of many parts, which can be used in the automotive, aviation, clock and watch industries as well as in medicine & dental technology eliminating the needs for a 5-axis machine upto a large extent. Also floor space occupied by 3-axis machine along with 2-axis of rotary tables is upto 65 per cent less in comparison to typical 5-axis machining centres. This plays an important role if the production area is limited or expensive.
