ABB rolls out subscription model for battery energy storage

ABB introduces a Battery Energy Storage Systems service model to support industry power management and evolving energy needs.

ABB introduces the Battery Energy Storage Systems-as-a-Service (BESS-as-a-Service), a zero-capital-expense solution that aims to accelerate the transition to clean, reliable, and reasonably priced energy. For a quarterly subscription, the service provides businesses with a comprehensive solution for energy storage, including all hardware, software, deployment, maintenance, and optimisation.

By 2030, the International Energy Agency predicts the world’s storage capacity will have increased sixfold, with commercial and industrial systems predicted to rise nearly tenfold, reaching 560 GWh. Energy trading broking fees, maintenance coverage, and performance guarantees are all included in ABB’s technology-neutral BESS-as-a-Service. Customers can make money by selling excess energy thanks to ABB’s management of energy market participation.

Stuart Thompson, Division President at ABB’s Electrification Service Division, stated, “In today’s volatile energy market, businesses need reliability and cost predictability above all else. ABB is working with potential clients to perform feasibility studies to guarantee financial gains before implementation. To support the service, the company has teamed up with professionals in data analytics, financial modelling, and energy monitoring software.

Thompson added, BESS-as-a-Service is revolutionising the economics of clean energy adoption by providing the financial returns and flexibility businesses need to confidently decarbonise, enabling them to take charge of their energy requirements, enhance resilience, and unlock additional value from their assets without the financial burden of significant capital investment.
