L2 Aviation and Gotonomi partner to advance satellite connectivity for UAVs

L2 Aviation and Gotonomi have formed a strategic partnership to enhance satellite connectivity for uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) platforms, particularly in remote areas. This collaboration aims to merge L2 Aviation’s expertise in avionics integration and certification with Gotonomi’s compact satellite communications technology.

L2 Aviation and Gotonomi have announced a strategic partnership to advance integrated satellite connectivity solutions for uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) platforms operating in remote and connectivity-constrained environments.

The collaboration plans to combine L2 Aviation’s avionics integration, engineering, certification, manufacturing and aircraft modification expertise with Gotonomi’s compact satellite communications technology. The companies aim to help UAV and AAM operators maintain reliable connectivity in areas where cellular, Wi-Fi and other terrestrial networks may be limited or unavailable.

The planned solutions will incorporate Gotonomi’s lightweight UAV communications technology and access to Viasat’s Velaris ecosystem, a satellite communications service developed for UAV and AAM operations. L2 Aviation joined the Viasat Velaris ecosystem through Galaxy 1 Communications in May 2026. The move brought nearly three decades of avionics integration, certification and safety-critical aircraft modification experience to the growing uncrewed aviation market.

Under the new partnership, L2 Aviation will provide engineering, integration, installation and certification support for incorporating Gotonomi’s technology into customer aircraft and operating platforms. The combined solutions are intended to support connectivity for command and control, telemetry, operational information and mission-critical data. By bringing connectivity technology, aircraft integration and regulatory certification together, the companies aim to provide UAV manufacturers, operators and mission-system providers with a coordinated path from system architecture through operational deployment.

Tony Bailey, president and chief operating officer of L2 Aviation, states, “UAV and advanced air mobility platforms cannot reach their full operational potential when connectivity, aircraft integration, certification, and deployment are treated as separate challenges.”

Gotonomi General Manager Matthew Hill says, “The partnership could help energy and infrastructure operators deploy aircraft beyond the reach of traditional communications networks by combining Gotonomi’s compact communications technology with L2 Aviation’s integration and certification capabilities.” 

The L2 Aviation satellite-connected UAVs are across industries, including energy and government, particularly where aircraft must inspect and service assets across large, remote or difficult-to-access areas. For these operations, resilient connectivity can be critical to maintaining communications between aircraft, operators and mission systems.

Jeff Rex, CRO of L2 Aviation, mentions, “Reliable connectivity is one of the fundamental requirements for expanding what unmanned aircraft can accomplish. He added that the company intends to provide customers with an integrated solution rather than simply another hardware component, combining connectivity technology with mission-critical systems, certification and installation expertise.” 

Satellite connectivity could also support the expansion of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations by maintaining communications beyond the practical limits of conventional terrestrial networks. The partnership therefore represents an effort to address a key challenge facing the expanding UAV and AAM sectors: enabling aircraft to remain connected, integrated and operational when conventional communications infrastructure is unavailable.
